Remembering the Story of God's Work in Meine, Germany

We will not hide them from their children,
but tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,
and the wonders that he has done.

~ Psalm 78:4

Tell the coming generation. Psalm 78 is just one example of many other places in scripture where the people of God are called to remember the faithfulness of God and to tell those stories to future generations. We read this passage at church several weeks ago and it left me thinking about the role stories play for us as believers. Why is it so important to the Lord that we remember His past provision and tell others about it?

We are such forgetful people. Over and over we see Israel forgetting the way the Lord provided for them in the past and this led them to present day grumbling and doubt in the Lord. In Deuteronomy 4:9-10 the people are instructed against this temptation. “Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children's children—  how on the day that you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, the Lord said to me, ‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.” One of the main ways the Israelites were called to keep their souls diligently devoted is by not forgetting what their eyes have seen.  Remembering the Lord’s faithfulness to us in the past aids us in our ability to serve the Lord faithfully in the present.

God’s Story of the Kelly’s ministry in Germany. A couple weeks ago we received an email from the Kelly's church with a slideshow of pictures that tell the story of their church from its start in the late 90s until present day. This presentation is “telling the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.” Let us praise God with them! The Lord has been good and faithful bringing much fruit through the ministry of the Freie Evangelishce Biblgemeinde in Meine Germany. May the Lord continue to bless their ministry for the glory of His name and the advancement of His kingdom. To learn more about the Kelly's ministry in Germany you can click here.
