Be Still

Parent’s Corner- November 4, 2018

“Be still and know that I am God.”  Psalm 46:10

Have you ever been on an airplane and heard the emergency procedures instructions?  Do you remember that parents are instructed to put on their own oxygen masks first before assisting young children?  Why are parents given this reminder?  I believe it is because it is important, but it wouldn’t necessarily be a parent’s first instinct.

Why does God remind us to be still?  I believe it’s for the same reason. . .  it’s important, and it isn’t always our first instinct.  When we are still, it is easier to eliminate other distractions and listen to the Lord.  This is not only important for us ourselves, but it is also important for our children to observe us doing.  If they see us take time in our day to be still and spend time with the Lord, they may want it for themselves as well. And isn’t this what we want for them. . . to develop and deepen their relationship with the Lord?

So being still doesn’t only benefit us, but it benefits our children as well.  Now that is a type of multi-tasking I could embrace!

This Week in Sunday School. . .

Children’s Church- Jesus Forgives Sins

Scripture- Matthew 9:1-8

Lesson Goal- The student will understand that he or she must turn to Jesus for forgiveness of sin.

Bible Truths-

1.     The paralytic’s friends had faith that Jesus could heal.

2.     Jesus’ ability to heal proved He could forgive because He is God.

3.     The people praised God after seeing Jesus’ miracle.

Key Verse-  “But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins’- then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.’” Matthew 9:6
